This is quite a stretch for a shy high school girl, former English teacher, and stay-at-home mom who grew up with a love of horses. Riding helped Barb survive the dramas of high school and when her two daughters were infants, it kept her from disappearing under piles of diapers and dirty laundry. Though she rarely wore makeup, in 1985 Barb decided to become a part-time consultant with Mary Kay, Inc. to pay the board bill on her horse. Though still shy, she discovered she had a passion for supporting other women, and by 1988 Barb had earned a place in the top 2% of the company as an Independent Sales Director. In the years that followed she earned the use of nine free Mary Kay cars, one of which was the prestigious Pink Cadillac. Every Parent's Nightmare... In the fall of 1998 Barb's younger college-age daughter was in a life-threatening accident half way around the world. Her daughter's recovery was a miracle and a life-changing event for everyone in the family. With the urging and support of friends, Barb began writing her first book, Hope Grew Round Me. She shared her personal story of hope and transformation to encourage others to find their unique voice, to break through self-imposed boundaries, and to honor all the journeys of their life. An Ending and a New Beginning As she watched her daughter struggle to reclaim her life, Barb was inspired to begin the often painful journey to discover and heal the emotional pieces of herself that were broken and damaged. It was during this time that her marriage of thirty-three years ended. Determined to share what she had learned during this difficult and sometimes overwhelming transition, Barb wrote After the Ball: A Woman’s Tale of Reclaiming Happily Ever After. Her books led her begin speaking and to create her class, Women and Divorce: Renewing Hope. They also inspired her to co-found Divorcing Divas, LLC, a company dedicated to helping others as they transition through divorce to a new future. Her wish is that every woman heed the message from the fairy godmother in After the Ball as she whispers to each princess, “Trust yourself, my sweet dear, trust yourself.” |
